As we open our hearts and enfold little Byron in our arms we just realised once again how difficult life can be when you find yourself all alone.

This little kitten of about 10 weeks of age has had a ordeal that none of us can even begin to imagine. Late one evening we got a distressed call of caring people who asked our help with a kitten that is extremely afraid underneath the wendy house in their garden.

Upon our arrival we found the most awesome little kitten that was extremely distressed and hungry. We’ve noted that his left front leg was troubling him when he tries to walk. After numerous attempts to rescue him from underneath the wendy house we finaly got him out without causing him more trauma. He was taken to our vet where X-rays were taken of his leg. The prognosis was not good and the vet found that he had severe nerve damage in the leg and the only option was to amputate the front leg.

Our little Byron was very brave little boy but we knew he was in a lot of pain and that his whole life would chance forever. We promised him that he would never be alone during this extremely difficult time and that we would do whatever is needed to help him having a full recovery. It was further found that his tail was also broken which must have been related to the incident that caused him to loose his leg. Byron is now in foster care where he receive 24/7 care and where his rehabilitation process has started. During this period he will learn how to walk again and how to live a normal kitty cat life with 3 legs.

Please spare our boy a prayer and sent him some love and healing thoughts so that he knows what it is to be part of a family that only knows love and understanding. Our boy needs to know that he is absolutely purrfect even if he only have 3 legs.

Beloved Rocky needs our help and healing thoughts…

He has become part of the Lucky Lucy Family over the past years as he needed help with his hind legs a few years ago. He could be helped and pins were placed in both hind legs… all because YOU cared enough to HELP.

  • … and then he gave us the fright of our lives when he was shot earlier this year. … BUT he is a champ, a survivor and with the devotion and love of his own family and the awesome Lucky Lucy suppawters he pulled through and his leg could even be saved.
  • The harsh cold winter has taken its toll on his hind legs even though he snuggles up in bed every night with his hu-mamma and hu-dadda. They may not have much, but the love in their hearts for Rocky makes you go awww… when you see the interaction between human and furkid.

He will be going to the vet asap as he is struggling to walk more and more. We’ve put him on pain meds and he is already feeling a bit better.
Rocky is loyal and loves unconditionally. We would so much like to make life easier for him and would appreciate it if you could spare a few cents towards his vet visit.

Should you want to open your heat to this beauty and become his monthly sponsor, please e-mail contact@luckylucy.org. We need to provide him with good food and pain meds. (Will do an update on this boy as soon as we receive the vet report.)

HAPPY Skylar

Skylar is a true ambassador for her breed and has crept into the hearts of many people while at our shelter. We saw her change from a skinny mangy sad girl into a gorgeous confident and courageous loyal friend. Skylar, you will be missed immensely and even though it was sad to see you go we are SUPER happy to know that you are now in a home that will be furever and that you will have all the love you need and even more!

Last Sunday our super gorgeous black and tan beauty took the long journey to her new home. They all arrived home safely and she has settled in very nicely with the Greve family. She already loves her new family and fur’iend! We want to thank the Greve family for providing a furtastic home filled with love. We would also like to thank Friend of the Rottweiler Rescue & Re-home South Africa who was also involved in her rehoming.
Here’s to a lot of years filled with Rottie love!!!

We had a busy weekend at both farms. On the old farm we were blessed with many volunteers who came to help with our furkids. On the new farm the first 70 poles have been planted with many more to go.
We still need cement, bricks, paving, fencing, wire and white enamel paint. Please mail richard@luckylucy.org if you can help.

  • We urgently need anything we can put in the fence post holes – halve bricks, pieces of cement, large stones etc.  It would be great if it can be delivered to the new farm. Please mail richard@luckylucy.org if you can help.
  • If there is some strong men (or woman) than can help with the hard labour over the weekend please mail volunteer@luckylucy.org.
If you cannot help please consider making a donation to pay a labourer for the day.
  • We also still urgently need a shipping container for storage. We will be using it permanently on the new farm. Any size will do and we would also need help with delivery, but we could arrange delivery if one can be donated. Please mail richard@luckylucy.org if you can help with a container.
  • We need a big signboard to put at the entrance of the recue centre. If anybody can sponsor a sign please mail contact@luckylucy.org

A big thank you to everybody who made a donation. We can’t run this shelter without your help and support.
