To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Dear Lucky Lucy Supporter

The fifth month of 2016 is fast approaching and the winter is stalking us once again. While we will soon be whiling away the cold with hot chocolate and fireplaces, please spare a thought to our indigent communities around the greater Cape Town. Most of the people in these communities dearly love their animals but find it difficult to provide even basic medical treatment and care to their animals. That is why they need us.

The most critical need in these communities boils down to treatment for fleas, ticks and worm infestation. These conditions are the precursor for more serious diseases such as parvo, distember and billiary (a type of tick bite fever). Also skin diseases like mange and nutrition-based diseases like rickets.

We urge you to consider joining our Guardian Angel program if not already a member. Visit our website (http://luckylucy.org) to find out more and get involved by volunteering with us over weekends. Adopt (or foster) our shelter dogs and cats to ensure we can keep on helping more and more animals desperate for food, shelter and medical treatment, and help us end the cycle of neglect and abuse.

Thank you for all your support.

SOS
Today we come to you with big pleading eyes. We did 2 outreaches this weekend to help the furkids in a nearby community. Around mid day Sunday (24 April2016) today, while we were still dipping furkids, they brought 3 pups to us for deworming. Ended up sitting on the dip soaked ground with 3 tiny almost lifeless pups on my lap. In that moment life stood still and despair raised its ugly head. It makes you feel utterly helpless knowing death has it’s grip on them and they are slipping away. We had to stop the dip day right there to rush these little souls to hospital. We really thought the one was busy dying as she was very lethargic and the smell that came from her mouth was foul and smelled like rotten death and decay. The other 2 were not much better. All 3 were admitted to hospital and put on a drip. They tested negative for distemper and parvo but needed further tests for biliary etc.

Please help us, our Panorama vet bill was R51 252.10 on 19 April and even more furkids went there. This means the bill is even higher by now! Please, we beg of you to help us. These tiny babies need intensive care to pull through. Keanu and Keisha are in a really bad state and we are not even sure if they will make it or not.

Please, please help them. Keep them in your thoughts so that they may feel your warm love and that it can give them the courage to fight death so that it can loosen its grip on them and give them back to us. Let’s give them back LIFE!

Sadly Baby Kiera passed away Sunday night.

In Loving Memory
Baby Kiera

I guess in our hearts we already knew that you would only be borrowed to us for a very very short time. We knew it in that first second that our hearts touched yours, but still we clung to the possibility of a miracle for while there is life, there is always hope.

Innocent baby, we are so sorry humans failed you. We tried our best, the vets tried their best, but the call of the angels were mightier than our love and determination to keep you with us. You slipped away in hospital as you had better things waiting for you than this earthly suffering. An eternity of joy, love and health awaits you beyond the rainbow bridge. Run & play to your heart’s delight little girl! Now you can finally be happy and free.

Kiera, even though we only held you briefly in our arms, your place in our hearts is reserved furever and ever. Go well tiny girl, until we all meet again.
We LOVE you baby Kiera. Furever & ever!
Xxx

While we mourn the loss of baby Kiera, we are super happy to let you know that Keanu & Keisha were released from hospital. The are getting TLC (plenty of it!) in foster care. They are very skinny (the worst we have seen in a long time) and worm infested, so please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Aww… just look at the little snuggle bunnies.
