To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Mandela Day is upon us and many volunteers have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the day is not only fun but entirely productive. After all it is a day which celebrates the selfness of a man we all need to thank for giving this Rainbow nation the kick start it so desperately needed.

Many of you have responded generously to us with promises of Outreach food donations and various other forms of assistance. Many will be spending 67 minutes plus on the farm giving of their time, labour and hard earned cash, supplying and applying paint on the new buildings, paving at the cattery and new clinic and for this support we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

For those of you that have not been at the Shelter for a while I ask that you take the time to walk around the farm and see what we are busy with and what will hopefully be complete within the next 2/3 months.

These projects will change the way we operate as a foundation and enable LLF to raise additional funds and provide on-site clinical services to our animals and those of surrounding communities. We are all very proud of what has been achieved over the last 20 months and never lose sight of the fact that we could not have done any of it without your support.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday

Kind Regards
Richard Green (Chairperson)

Mandela Day at Alcatraz – 16 July 2016

You are cordially invited to spend a few minutes of your 67 minutes in honor of Mandela Day at Alcatraz!

Bringing Magic your way …. a garden of discovery and exploration …
Obtain your ENTRY to the Magic Garden by means of a TREE or a PLANT or at least ONE ITEM from our CATTERY WISHLIST!

Help us build a legacy for the future as each plant will make a significant contribution to what is going to be a Magical Garden! We have started to enclose our “open Cat Garden” concept where our feral cats will roam in peace and harmony.

Our vision for the future is that our catteries and “Open Cat Garden” will never be just another shelter with a garden – this will be a special place – where the seeds of many paths will be joining. It will be a place where visitors will help mend the broken spirits of some of the animals in our care and where animal and human can find calm refuge from the stresses of everyday life, a soothing balm for each heart and soul entering our Sanctuary. Fully implementing this concept will further change the opinions people have about shelters and rescued animals. It is therefore our mission to change the attitudes of people who feel that visiting a shelter is an emotional experience that they are not ready for.

So please join us on the 16th of July 2016 at the Lucky Lucy Farm and help us transform a vision into reality – all we ask is 67 minutes of your time and either a plant or a tree or one item from our Cattery Wishlist!
We cannot wait to meet each and every one of you! See you on Saturday, 16 July 2016 from 09:00 – 14:00!

What is Mandela Day?

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” – Nelson Mandela

Mandela Day was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made on his birthday, 18 July 2008, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”.
It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honor his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.

TAKE ACTION AND INSPIRE CHANGE IS OUR MOTTO FOR THE DAY!
The message behind Mandela Day is simple – each individual has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better. The baton of leadership has been handed over to us. It is in our hands now to make a positive difference.

RIP

Dear Chucky

Sometimes this burden placed upon our shoulders is too heavy to carry… but there is no option of giving up or giving in. We just have to do what is right… for you. There is no us, only you. Tonight our pain is nothing compared to yours.

You haven’t been well for the past few months and your last operation was merely 3 weeks ago. We could no longer see you suffer and waste away, see the pain you were in. Even though you put on a brave face and a beautiful smile, we could see pass that and we had to listen to what your soul was whispering to us.

It was time….It was a room filled with love and sadness as we were all there to hand you over to the angels beyond the rainbow bridge with very strict instructions to keep you safe till the day comes when we will all be reunited. We tried to be strong for you, but in the end the tears could not be stopped.

You were rescued during an outreach in 2011 in a very sad state, only skin and bones. Yet you flowered into a handsome lad. At first they made us believe you could not get along with other furkids, but you proved them wrong and enjoyed the company of your female fur’iends. You were such a GOOD boy. We all loved you and will always do! You are one special furkid! The only regret we have is that no-one saw your beauty and your big heart. You so deserved to find a forever home in a real home with a real family. Please know that even though we could not give you that, you were still our son and we loved you! We still do!

A love that not even death can break. A fur-ever love.

Good bye, fur-ever son, till we meet again.

 Xxx

Sweet Talita,

How could we fall in love so quickly and so deeply with you? Yet it was not meant to be a lasting love on earth but rather a lasting love beyond the rainbow bridge… a lasting love in our hearts…. a memory of you and that big ears and soulful eyes imprinted onto our souls and hearts.

You were entrusted to us on Monday after your owners said they could not care for you. We took you to the vet and then to a specialist, but the prognosis was not good. You were paralysed and controlling of bodily functions were a problem. How could we put you through all the suffering… you had no future… It is no future lying in your own urine and poop and eventually a future where your bladder would have to be manually emptied by a person multiple times a day.

No more touching your soft fur and looking into your eyes, but we did see you running off with the angels far beyond the rainbow bridge. We cannot wait for the day you run towards us and jumps into our arms where you belong.

Go well little lady, you are now our doghter forever.

Until we meet again

Love furever and ever and ever…

xxx

RIP REX

Beautiful baby Rex, what should have been the beginning of a happy life, was taken away from you. Much too soon.

On Friday, 8 July, we got an emergency call that there was a sick dog that did not want to eat in a community far from us. We picked you up and took you to the vet. You did not even want to open your eyes for the camera, your body was so weak, but we were prepared to fight for you. WITH EVERYTHING IT TAKES! You were diagnosed with babesia, a tick-transmitted disease. Further investigation revealed a chicken bone in your tummy.

Still, we had hope for you. The next morning we got the call to say that the angels came… The angels came and they took your young life from us. We never in a million years thought it would happen. Now we are stuck here wondering why they needed you more than us. Why? WE needed you! We needed you so much! You were supposed to be our son!

Baby Rex, we know that the angels will look after you and keep you in their loving arms till the day we are reunited again and you can be in our arms again.

Until then, we will keep you in our hearts.

Please know that we love you forever and ever…
