To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Dear Supporters

The month of July is normally known for bringing the coldest weather and rain. But this month Lucky Lucy will warm your hearts and minds with some exciting events to see off the winter blues.

On the 16th, we have our Mandela Day activities at the Lucky Lucy farm. Visit us on the day and participate to ensure you get to spend time with our dogs and cats. You will also have the opportunity to donate 67 minutes of your time doing your bit for Mandela day and thereby helping our animals in the process. Scroll down to the events heading for more details.

On the 23rd, we host our Country Dance and 3 course dinner at the Protea Heights Academy in Brackenfell. Do not miss it, scroll down under events and make sure you don’t lose out. Please support this event, and ensure you bring your colleagues, friends and family along. A good time is absolutely guaranteed.

Please don’t forget to ensure you help us network our dogs and cats up for adoption as much as you can. They really deserve a home of their own and it will allow us to help many more homeless and hungry animals.

Lastly, we want to once again thank you for all your support not just this year, but for all the years of our existance. Without you we are nothing and we cannot do what we do so well. Really, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are the best.

News

Meet Collin

This tiny little boy was the victim of a car accident. He belonged to a homeless lady, but after the accident she kept chasing him away. He must have been so confused and in so much pain! Luckily he was brought to CAMC by a concerned passerby. From there he found his way to our shelter.

Collin has a pelvis fracture. We found a temp foster home for him where he can be kept very still and heal as it will take a few weeks for him to be back to bouncing around.

We just know this little guy will win hearts wherever he go! Join us in wishing Collin a speedy recovery and welcoming him to the LLF family.

Meet Chicky…

She was NOBODY’s dog.

NOBODY loved her.

NOBODY cared about this darling older lady.

NOBODY saw the growths on her body.

NOBODY cuddled her.

NOBODY told her things are going to be okay.

She was just NOBODY’s dog.

Believe us, it is NO FUN being NOBODY’s dog!

… NOBODY’s dog… Until that day that SOMEBODY cared enough to feed her and until that day when the caring lady approached us and told us about this stray old girl that needed help. We had no space to take her in immediately as our quarantine is bursting at the seems, so the kind lady kept looking after her for a few days till we had an opening.

No longer NOBODY’s dog! She is now part of our family and our doghter! … and maybe there is a special person out there that has a place in their family and on their bed for this lady! Who can resist a grey muzzle and the generous heart of a golden oldie?

Chicky is booked for surgery next week (first available appointment) to remove the growths. Please pray and hope with us that it is not something serious. Please keep her in your thoughts.

If you are able to help with a few cents towards her medical bill, Chicky promises to be your BFF – Best Fur’iend Furever.

Meet Stella

A farmer in the Wellington area spotted this girl sitting at the ‘picnic area’ early on 22 June 2016. Later that day when he went that way again, this lonely soul was still just sitting there. He picked her up and drove her around to find the owner, but sadly nobody knew her. We assumed she has been dumped there.

He contacted one of our representatives. Luckily he was able to keep her safe (with a full tummy of yummy food!) for the night until we could make a space for her. The next day she came to us!

She is just so HUNGRY! This is a good sign and we are grateful that besides her skinny body and a few wounds she is doing well.

Join us for Stella’s journey in packing on the pounds. In no time she’s going to be brand spanking new! She has no grudges against who did this to her nor is she feeling sorry for herself. She is a friendly beautiful girl, full of love!

Update on Madala

Madala’s health is improving. He is still wary of people, but we are slowly but surely winning him over. Just love this old man!

News on one of our old timers at LLF!

Life has been rough for Dusty the past couple of months. End September last year he hurt his leg. Then in March he had an allergic reaction to a flea/tick collar and just after that we found a cyst on his lower back. With med care he triumphed over all these ailments. At the end of May we saw that Dusty was not feeling well. He was just very quiet and we could see that he was not feeling 100%. He was then diagnosed with tick bite fever and responded very well to treatment. Our happy Dusty was back!

Then on Saturday 25 June 2016, his hind legs suddenly gave in and he was all wobbly. We took him to the vet immediately. Today they did some tests. They could find nothing wrong with his legs or spine, but they found a suspicious tumour in his lung.

No!!!!! Our gentle loving soul, Dusty, we are not ready for you to leave. Please stay with us… If only all the love we have for you could heal your broken body. This is indeed a very sad day for all of us that loves him dearly. To those who do not know him, he might look just like another shelter dog, but to us he has been our son for just over 5 years. Please pray with us and send healing thoughts to this special old man. He desperately needs us know.

He was found lying in the middle of the veld near a farm and brought to us in June 2011. He is an estimated 8.5 years old now.

Please share his plea, we need all the pawsitive thoughts in the world! A little towards his vet bill would also be appreciated.

RIP

In a bittersweet moment, our boy George Ezra has found his wings!

As we held you in our arms today, we suddenly realise there will be no more kisses on the cheek or nose – no more cuddles at night, Oh what we would give to just turn back the hands of time for one more hug and one more kiss ….

Who could ever have thought you would be gone so soon. We watched you fade away as our vets tried their best to make you stay. And then … while you could not speak the words, we could hear the whispers of your voice. Telling us it was now time to go, to go and celebrate your life and rejoice.

As you lay down your tired head on my arm we know there was no fight left anymore, As hard as we tried we just could not let you suffer with that pain anymore and we had to let you go. And when we saw you sleeping, so peacefully free from pain, We just realised that we never could wish you back, to suffer that pain again. In our hearts we know you loved all of us, as much as we loved you. We know you’ve found the peace, that will help to see us through.

We hide our tears when we say your name,

But the pain in our hearts will always be the same.

Although we will smile again and seems care free,

You know that there will be no one who will misses you more than us!

Goodbyes hurt when the story is not finished and the book has been closed forever ….

So tonight we need to realise that goodbyes are not forever,

Goodbyes are not the end,

They simply mean we’ll miss you until we meet again!

Run free our awesome little boy as one day we will be one again!

One day we won’t have to say good bye ever again!
