To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Black cats and black dogs are often overlooked at shelters and their adoption rate is lower for various debatable reasons. There is even a name for it in dogs – black dog syndrome or big black dog syndrome – a disputed phenomenon in which black dogs are passed over in favour of lighter coloured canines.

Black cats are considered to bring good fortune in countries like Britain and Japan whereas other countries associate them with evil or misfortune, a stigma we find impossible to understand.

At Lucky Lucy we recommend making a day of it. Come visit us on Saturdays and Sunday between 9 and 2, and spend some time in the camps and cattery. Look past the colour of the the coat. Make eye contact and let them win you over and let them into your hearts.

Adopting from us makes a huge difference in the lives of abandoned animals, as it gives us another opportunity to save another life.

One thing is for certain we have a large number of awesome adoptable black cats and dogs who are totally deserving of their own forever homes.

R.I.P.

Dear Sport

On Sunday 22 May 2016 we brought you home with us and all we could do was stroke your soft fur and whisper with our hearts that we are so extremely sorry that we were too late to save you. When the call came today that you were hurt, you were fetched from your community and taken to the vet directly. We never expected that it would be your last trip somewhere. A vehicle accident and disease took you away and left us all with a deep heartache that not even time will heal.

Remember that even when we did not have the honour of spending more time with you, we will love you forever. You will always be part of our family.

Now you can be a happy boy again. Promise us that you will wait for us beyond the rainbow bridge until that joyous day when we will finally be able to be with you.

Love you now & forever xxx
