To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Dear Lucky Lucy Supporters and Volunteers,

I thought I’d use this letter to dispel a myth! That myth is “Lucky Lucy is doing well so they must have a lot of cash”. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The great projects being currently being completed on the LLF property, have been funded by 2 or 3 private people and a number of companies that have generously given of their own money, goods and services for very specific projects. These projects are either aimed at enhancing LLF’s ability to deliver services to our ‘flock’ and the many abused and sick animals that will come to LLF in the future or enabling LLF to derive income from its property by operating business from the farm. We are privileged to have amongst us people and companies who are willing to finance these projects; however this money is absorbed 100% in funding these projects.

The monthly cash flow required to fund the running costs of LLF is around R200 000 per month. This money is accumulated via our Guardian Angel program, regular and generous supporters who donate on an ad hoc basis and the fund raising activities of volunteers and supporters. Every month we battle to make this required target and when the VET bills escalate due to severe abuse cases, we need to ask for specific assistance.

Please know that we really value your generous and consistent support and we are not complaining-this note is just to dispel the myth.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 8th of October! Blankets, picnic baskets (filled with your choice of food and drink!), you and the Kids. More details of the Sundowner Event to follow soon.

Kind Regards

Richard Green (Chairperson)

Vicky – Rescued 9 September 2016

Please help me…The day came and everyone was packing…. They packed everything…. But they forgot to take me with. They were gone and I was left unwanted. They stopped loving me. I don’t even know if they ever loved me. Maybe when I was a tiny cute fluff ball puppy? I can’t remember, it all feels so long ago since I felt love.

I waited. Days turned into weeks, but they never came back. Slowly I realized they have abandoned me. I searched for bits of food to stay alive… my tummy growled and ached. It got worse. At first I thought it was just the hunger … it hurt and I felt so bad. I just wished it would go away.

Then help came and they took me to a shelter called Lucky Lucy Foundation. During my admittance I was tested for Distemper and Parvo… I saw the worry in their eyes when they looked at the little plastic thingy which showed two stripes. Positive for Parvo. I had no idea what it meant, but they loaded me in the vehicle again and brought me to this place called a hospital. I am scared and I don’t know what is happening to me. Please help me, I heard them say that because I am so neglected and skinny it will be a struggle for me to survive this disease. I know the people here will not give up on me, so I ask of you to also not give up on me…

Please send healing thoughts to Vicky. She is a special soul deserving a long healthy life and a happy family in her future. She is only about six months old. Please help us ensure that Vicky has a future. Parvo treatment means expensive treatment in hospital and we’ll need every cent you can spare to help pay for her bills. She is scared and weak and weighs a mere 7.7kg. She needs all of our help now.

Vicky has since been discharged and is in isolation at LLF. We are positive that she will make a full recovery and go up for adoption soon.

Ben

Saturday night , 10 September we got a call that left us in despair. A mommy dog was giving birth and a puppy was stuck.

We rushed to fetch her and took her straight to the vet. It did not look good. One puppy already died. She was suffering and extremely weak. She was placed on drip and we got a quote for between R4000 and R6000 to save them. What do we do? How much are their lives worth? We just closed our eyes, prayed and said GO AHEAD, SAVE THEM! We’ll worry about the funds later. Hours later they had to do a caesarean and 6 tiny babies were delivered. Mom was so weak and could not cope. She had no milk, so we had to fetch the pups this morning and our foster mom Louise started the labour (and love) intensive task of bottle feeding them. Mom is still in hospital.

Please keep them in your thoughts as Mom and some of the pups are very weak. Please send guardian angels to keep them safe so that they may survive.

We also need to raise the money to pay for their stay in hospital and the operation. They will also need loads of puppy milk to grow up big and strong, so we are begging you to please help if you are able to. Please share their plea.
