To the Supporters and Volunteers of Lucky Lucy Foundation – 11 Feb 2016

The month of love is upon us and 2016 is well and truly underway. One thing distinguishes LLF from all other rescue centers and that is the love we all feel for our animals. We’ll brave any heatwave and surmount any obstacle to provide the best care for our resident ‘fur’ children. And we do it because of you, our loyal supporters!

If you haven’t been to our farm recently I want to extend a heartfelt invitation to join us on weekends, to see for yourself the progress we are making in ensuring the legacy of each and every animal that enters our home. With your help our animal companions are thriving, and are enjoying life like never before in their lives. Come and experience the glint in the eye, the wagging of tails and the wet kisses in abundance.

To the wonderful adopters and foster parents in this great city, thank you so much for opening your hearts and families to our dogs and cats, who ask nothing more than to be loved and to allow them to love you. We’ve had a great start to the year, 5 adult cats and 12 kittens as well as 8 dogs and 6 puppies found permanent homes in January. We encourage you to find your furry soulmate(s) this month of love, even if fostering is your only option. You will never regret it.

Please browse through this update and share it with your friends, colleagues, relatives and just everyone who share the love for animals this February. We’re looking forward to interact with you and are very excited to show you around on the farm and allow you to pick your life-long friend.

Yours in animal rescue

New Arrivals

Meet Attie

Sometimes priceless ‘presents’ come in plain cardboard boxes! Today such a special ‘gift’ arrived. Meet little Attie from Atlantis who joined our family this morning. He is underfed and already has mange at the tender age of 7 weeks. A kind man found him by his gate and brought him to us. Welcome Attie, when you are ready, we will find you the best home ever. No more being unwanted, alone and scared in the world! We promise to love and care for you until you find the perfect home … and even then we will continue to love you.

Attie tested negative for distemper and parvo. He will need further medical care and good puppy food to become a healthy boisterous boy.

Meet Raven

A tiny heartbeat joined our family.

It’s a naked little puppy, but perfect in our eyes. Isn’t she beautiful? And so tiny!

This was another case of being at the right place at the right time. On Sunday, 7 Feb, one of our kitties was taken to the vet and it was there that our paths crossed with this awesome little girl!

We will never know what a tiny pup, barely a few weeks old, was doing out on her own in the harsh world, but we are so grateful that Raven was saved from traffic in Ravensmead by kind people who took her to the vet.

She has demodectic mange. It is not transferable but does take a long time to heal.

Welcome little Raven, we know your foster mom will shower you with TLC until your perfect family comes along.

Meet Tao!

Sometimes life is not fair…

and sometimes life is just plain cruel !!!

This young girl was confiscated today on the N7 and surrendered to the vet. We were at the vet with some of our sick furkids and were asked to take in this damsel in distress.

Panic mode! What do you do when there is absolutely no space to take in another furkid? What do you do? Do you look just look away and pretend not to see the broken body and soul? ‘Cos if you do, what will happen to her? We could not… so we loaded her in the bakkie and brought her to our shelter. Frantically making space… for one more lost soul.

She is still a young girl and must have fallen pregnant with her first heat cycle. Probably forced to mate so that she can be THEIR ATM cash machine! With no love and no food, Mom and babies did not have a chance and this mother was sadly forced to eat her own dead babies so that she can stay alive.

Her skin is a mess and she has sarcoptic mange. We can only hope and pray that being a living skeleton has not caused permanent harm to her body.

Madame Tao, welcome to our family. (The name means ‘one who will have a long life’) We will do our utmost best to put the sparkle back in your eyes, to return the shine to your coat and to plump you up. We will start this journey together. It will be a slow journey with mountains, valleys and winding roads, but we promise you… once we reach the summit, you will have the best view of your future. There will be no looking back! We won’t stop till we have found you a loving family.

Please send Madame Tao warm welcome hugs and love. She will need all the pawsitive thoughts that you can spare…. Keep her in your heart and thoughts so that she may know that she has lots of friends that are rooting for her.

Madame Tao will appreciate any small donation towards her care.

A day at LLF (13 Jan) – This is for our staff

Description: NewsADayatLLF

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but our staff do try to do it ALL in one day…. And they do it every day!

Just a typical day @ Lucky Lucy Foundation:

On Tuesday 12 January 2016, they not only did the routine canine care at the farm and the multitude of vet trips….

  • Trixy was returned to her owners once they completed their fencing. No more chains for this girl!
  • Furkids were dipped in 2 communities and even the residents stepped in to help. Basic medical care was given. Education is so important and they trust us to care for their furkids. We truly live our motto: Don’t confiscate & euthanize, educate and sterilize!
  • A poor boy was rushed to the vet after they told us he has been hit by one of those big trucks at the waste disposal site. Luckily he escaped with minor wound and is currently in the capable and caring hands of our carers.
  • They’ve put up shade for the furkids in the community. This hard labour was done in the sweltering January heat. They always put the furkids first!

Hats off to our staff for a job well done. Animal welfare requires that extra mile every day and we are proud to say that you give it your all and even more! We are proud of TEAM DOG! You rock! We don’t recognize your hard work, care and love towards the furkids enough. The best is to see our furkids lovingly look at our staff. They approve 100% of their caregivers.

A humble Thank You for all that you do!

Help us remain top of our game.

RIP Mint

Our little boy, Mint went to play where there is no boundaries, no rules and no time!

So this is where we have to part, our dearest little angel, As you run over the Rainbow Bridge, to find new pleasures and meet new friends. You are one of Heaven’s little angels now …. A purrfect little star, And when you shine the world can see how beautiful and purrfect you are.

We are staying behind and lost for words for your sudden passing. You might be gone from our sight but please remember that you will never be gone from our minds nor from our hearts.

Some days are just more difficult than others, especially when we are forced to say our good byes.  There were so many moments still left to be explored, now it is only us left with the memories of the special moments shared between us. Our promise to you is that we will go on for the ones you’ve left behind,  Each day we will find the strength in the sunrise as this signifies new beginnings!

You will always be remembered and loved by us.

A special Thank You to Dr Andries Groenewald of Bergzicht Dierehospitaal who gave this little one the best care we could have asked for.

In Loving Memory, Simon

Baby Simon came to us on 3 December 2015 after being surrendered during an outreach. For 5 weeks foster mom Louise showered him with love and care and he blossomed into a fine young boy. Then last Thursday his tummy seemed to be a bit too big for his little boy’s body and he was taken to the vet where he was admitted to hospital for tests and observation.

We never thought that we would never see this little one again or hold his body and smell his puppy breath. Little Simon passed away early Friday morning, 8 January 2016, at the vet. They could not save him… Tests revealed that it was genetic and that little Simon passed away from a heart attack. So unfair! So young! He was only 12 weeks old. Still a baby!

Dear Simon, we will never forget you! You are a special little one that crept deep into our hearts. We will never know why your time with us was so limited, but we are thankful for each second we could call you our son. We are so sorry that we were not there to hold you but we truly believed that you will be okay and that you will come home. It was so unexpected.

Run, play and be happy! Until we meet again Simon. Remember we will love you forever and ever!

Thank You
