Dear Lucky Lucy Supporters and Volunteers,
All of you will, I know, join us in wishing all the homeowners and their Furkids being threatened by the rampant fires on the Peninsula all of the very best. Lucky Lucy is member of the CAWF (Cape animal welfare Forum) and many of the CAWF members together with the SPCA have bandied together to rescue many animals threatened and injured by the fire. As in any crisis, people have combined to assist wherever possible and amazing, heart-warming stories are emerging by the minute!
Lucky Lucy has made the decision to expedite the employment of a full time veterinary surgeon at the new LLF clinic. We are fairly confident that the offset of costs will pay for the veterinary surgeon and we are hoping that we will benefit from lower travel costs. The other positive effects of an on-site veterinarian cannot be over-estimated, I believe! We do need veterinary equipment for the new clinic, so if anyone out there knows of equipment suppliers that would be willing to contribute to the equipping of the clinic, we would be very grateful for the assistance.
We have started the building of the 20 kennels we will market to the public and we estimate they will be completed in time for the Easter holidays, so please spread the word. Every cent of the income from the kennels will be ploughed back into the work LLF does. We are planning a mass sterilization project in a nearby impoverished community which Dr. Annelize Roos will assist LLF to complete. Dr. Roos does amazing work in this environment and we salute her for that!
One of our recently adopted puppies was stolen from their new parents the day after they were adopted. The fence was cut and the puppy stolen – we continue to search for her. Please take SPECIAL care of your Furkids, especially now when desperate people are prepared to do almost anything to get their hands on ‘items’ of value. As always, your continued support remains invaluable to enable our continued efforts.
Stay safe
