To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

We want to once again thank you for your brilliant response to our pleas for financial assistance. We warmly appreciate each and every contribution you’ve made.

Some of you might have gotten the impression that we are are having financial difficulties. Not at all. The Future of Lucky Lucy is secure. We are a dedicated team whose only focus is the permanent security of the Foundation at all cost. We do however from time to time have to reign in spending to ensure our financial sustainability. So don’t fret. The animals are safe, and well fed. They receive the best basic and medical care there is. In fact we can confidently say, world-class. Providing sanctuary to our furkids is our first priority and that will never change.

That said, outreach to our underprivileged and marginalised communities is extremely important, and an objective which we cannot turn our backs on. If we don’t assist these communities now with sterilisation programs, we certainly will be overwhelmed with abandoned or stray animals in the very near future. Spaying and neutering is the only sustainable way to curb the scourge of abandonment and neglect. We feel obligated to provide basic medical assistance (such as dipping / deworming) and feeding assistance to ensure their owners will be less likely to abandon and to prevent them from ending up at shelters like us. The cycle has to end, and this is the only sustainable and proven way to do it.

We would like to ask you to help us by volunteering some of your time over weekends. Our dogs and cats need human interaction. It is critical to their development and sociability and to ensure that they will adapt and thrive when adopted. We have activities for both young or old, strenuous or mild, whichever you prefer. If you feel you are emotionally not strong enough, based on your previous shelter experiences, we can assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Come and visit us weekends between 9 and 2. We will change the way you feel about animal shelters furever!

Updates on Furkids

Introducing: Monate

Look! We have another little boy!

This little cutie pie was handed in at the vet after being found in Houtbay on 15 March 2016.

We went to the vet to pick up Tippy on 20 March 2016 where she was handed in and found this mangy & scared pup without a place to go…. So off we went with an unplanned pup to the shelter.

Monate is already taking puppy steps on the road to recovery and we hope that the itchy stinky mange would be a thing of the past soon. His legs will also be 100% better with the right nutrition and some well needed sunshine.

Please keep little Monate in your hearts.

Update :  Tippy

Remember Tippy we introduced last week?

Just look at her now.

There is a chill in the air, but Tippy does not mind at all… no more cold hungry days and nights for this girl. Here she can be seen in the latest pre-winter fashion exploring her surroundings. She is still wary of people, but that too will go away with loads of TLC.

Introducing: Dumi

 Meet Dumi

A rare beautiful diamond has found his way into our hearts and care. We were alerted about a fur-boy in Kalbaskraal on 4 March 2016, but he was very elusive. Yesterday we were over the moon when we finally managed to bring him to safety.

Our caregiver, Bonile, has named him Dumi. Dumi’s origin is African which means ‘one who inspires others’. We truly believe that he will inspire people to believe that where there is life, there is hope. We believe in hope and we surely believe in 2nd chances! He was seen by the vet, but our boy is very weak at the moment and we have to keep him in isolation for now as there might be a change that he has other illnesses. Please pray with us that this is not the case and that he will build strength and heal completely. Should there be no other illnesses, it will still take months to heal his skin but we already see the beautiful prince underneath the Armadillo skin armour.

We need ALL your healing and pawsitive thoughts for this darling please. We need a miracle to pull this boy through. Keep him in your hearts and send his loads of love. He desperately needs it now.

Update: Diamond & Jewel

Remember the Mange twins

It feels like yesterday that the mange twins, Diamond & Jewel, joined our Lucy Lucy family. In fact it was 4 YEARS ago!

They were transferred to our shelter as they were running out of time and showed no improvement in the shelter where they were treated.

As you can see they have both blossomed into fine ladies!

They are now about 6 years old, which means that they have been with us for most of their lives. 4 years fly by very quickly… but not when you are placing your heart out there every day…. When you hope and nothing happens. No homes.

Every day they wait patiently for their forever homes and every day they are passed by. Yes, they will always struggle a tiny bit with their skin, but please look beyond that and see their beauty and the gorgeous confident happy smiles. Please help them to find homes of their own. They too deserve a happy-furever-after…. In real homes with real families to call their own.

Update: Madame Tao

Tao has been with us for just shy of 2 months. She has turned out to be such a stunner with a brilliant Staffie-personality. She is extremely hard of hearing and only interacts with us by sight and touch. She loves exercise and adores sitting on soft human laps.

Our awesome volunteer Megan has taken Tao under her wing and is in the process of boosting her immune system, ensuring she get plenty of socialising and love from both furries and humans. She’ll be ready for adoption soon, watch this space.
