The Lucky Lucy Foundation held its AGM on the farm for the first time on Friday the 30th of October! Whilst the ‘office’ we held it in was a little more sandy than one would normally expect, it achieved all our goals and we had some real fun to boot.

Our Foundation is in far better shape than it has ever been thanks to generous donations that have allowed us to complete all the dog shelters and the Cattery is taking shape and will be the best one by far when done, thanks again to our resident volunteer garden expert.

The goals of the Foundation have been clearly set out and they include:

  • Development of our clinic which will in future provide community animal health services and not just service our own furkids.
  • A new entrance and approach road that will be completed in tandem with the N7 developments
  • A proper parking area
  • Public and staff ablution facilities
  • Completion/development of our dog ‘skills development’ area/facility.
  • The forest off lead run/fun park.

Our volunteer group is increasingly made up of energetic youngsters which is great to see and I hope they will ‘stay the course’ with us and all become regulars. As I said at the AGM these young volunteers are allowing the Board members to be out in the ‘market’ raising funds, so we really appreciate their support.
Whilst raising sufficient funds to continue the work LLF does is a constant challenge, our financials are stable thanks to our tremendous Guardian Angels and regular private and corporate donors. To them all, on behalf of the LLF board allow me to say a BIG THANK YOU.

I hope we will see all of you soon at one of our fund raisers or on the farm where you are always welcome.

Kind Regards

Richard Green

Update on special cases

LLF feral program

Lucky Lucy farm currently cares for approximately 28 ferals. During our Seresto trapping exercise after we tragically lost one of our ferals to billary, we trapped four additional ferals who are now tested, vaccinated, micro chipped and have a Seresto collar to protect them from ticks and fleas. Our feral colony is made up of many ferals who either moved with us from the old farm, feral moms whose kittens have been successfully re-homed and they stress in a confined environment or where the area they part of a feeding program became too dangerous. Dash our alpha was trapped at the old farm – he used to ‘dash’ between the dog camps before he was trapped and sterilised.
We assist with food for feral colonies that have been part of a TNR exercise and we work closely with Organisations that are able to trap, neuter and release. We will not assist where we get request to ‘remove’ the ferals as that is neither sustainable nor part of our pro-quality of life policy.
This past weekend was a very sad one for us we had to bid Ronnie the 20 year old feral farewell. He had been fed and cared for by the ladies at Grindrod and when he became too old and fragile he spent his last few months with us. It was an honour to be part of his final journey – Farewell old man and see you healthy and happy on the other side.
