Pawlease help… Another two furkids in need joined us.
Both are about 8 or 9 months old and have been in some tremendous pain. The owners tried to get help and were turned down by a few other shelters over the past few weeks and only given the option to put the furkids to sleep. With no money they were desperate. When the people contacted us, we immediately went there to access the situation and to ease their suffering. No animal should suffer. We cannot turn a blind eye and walk away… so off to the vet we went.

Davilen was kicked by horse a few days ago and her leg is completely broken. Elson has been walking around for weeks with a dislocated hip. So long that the muscles have wrapped around it and surgery is the only option to see if it can be fixed.

We don’t have an estimate yet but we know it is going to be a few thousand. We have no idea how we are going to pay for their surgeries, we just know that it needs to be done.

Please help if you are able to. Any amount, doesn’t matter how small will make a huge difference. Davilen and Elson will be forever grateful (all of us!). They have just started their lives and have many years to live. Please help us to give them the best medical help possible.

Please share this newsletter with friends, family and colleagues and remember to visit our website to see all the cats and dogs waiting for their forever home.

We have plenty of dogs and cats who are ready for adoption. Please ask your friends and family to consider adopting and saving a life.

HELP THE TICKS ARE HERE!!! Ticks and fleas are a very big problem on the LLF farm. We try everything we can to prevent the animals in our care getting bitten. Henrico Pretorius from Procare Workplace and Cleaning services visited the farm last weekend and sprayed the camps and around the cattery to treat them for ticks and fleas.

We are also trying to get the dogs Seresto collars since they still pick up ticks when going for a walk. We tried dipping once a week but in the past this has not been effective enough and we really do not want to see a furkid in hospital as a result of ticks because he/she did not have tick prevention treatment. So far the regular volunteers and supporters have been awesome but we still need quite a few collars sponsored. The cats can also benefit from Seresto collars.

Every month we really stress about our running cost and it would be pawsome if we had enough Guardian Angels signing debit orders to help finance our day to day expenses. Please encourage your friends and family to sign a debit order from as little as R100 a month. Existing Guardian Angels of R50 can continue as normal or let us know if you would like to increase your donation amount.

We also have an auction site and are always looking for items to auction if you would like to donate an item or service please mail contact@luckylucy.org

Update Ulla

After being on the streets for 4 years Ulla now finds herself in our care. The photos do not show her real ‘state’, but it is very clear when you touch her. Every rib and bone you feel under the dull fur are like stabs directly through your heart.

You tend to touch her very very softly as not to hurt her. Her vet report left us with a dark cloud enfolding our hearts… She was diagnosed with spondylosis. It caused chronic arthritis of her spine. Her prognosis is poor and we dare not think of what the future holds. However we are full of hope and believe she will get better. Day by day. Step by step.
She is on the highest dosage of pain meds and she has since started to move around a bit. It is still with difficulty but it is awesome to see the sparkle slowly returning to her eyes. She has a huge appetite and loves tucking into her food. She even followed us to the gate of her special camp and stuck her nose through the bars as to say….

“No, don’t leave now.” She is an old lady estimated to be at least 12 years old. Please keep Ulla close to your hearts while she recovers… She is a very special lady and we love her to bits!

3 New rescued pups.

How did the life of an animal, especially one so small and defenseless become so meaningless?
So meaningless that 3 little 6 week old pups were used as soccer balls by kids in Athlone. Sadly this is a daily occurrence and as a result our shelter is overflowing with cases like this!

We are just happy that Kalyn, a nurse who was visiting a patient, got them away safely. Thank you Kalyn for not turning a blind eye and for showing compassion towards these innocent little beings.

The 3 little Staffie cross boys have now joined our family. Luckily the boys, Marshall, Baxter and Jeremy have no severe injuries. Mange and parasites are being treated and they will be even more gorgeous in no time. They are going to be real ‘lookers’.

Please consider donating towards their medical care.

So far we have received sponsoredship for:
Grace / Jinga / Sushi / Tanya / Ulla / Fudge / Fiona / Daniel / Cash / Rover / Tillie / Boytjie / Oortjies
We have plenty more dogs but they all received Bravecto recently.
