OutreachWe believe strongly: Don’t Confiscate & Euthanize, Educate & Sterilize

When we first visited this small informal settlement earlier in March this year, the strongest of us felt that we could just break down and cry. The furkids were in such a state! No food, no water and no shelter! It hurt just looking at them.

So we set out to make a change in their lives for one cannot look away if they are in need.

With the right education, food and care these babies’ lives were turned around. They have shelter, food & water, their vaccinations done, micro-chipped and ALL sterilized. It is pawsome to have the commitment of the community and to see the change in them. The ultimate reward is the smiles on the furkids’ faces!!! NO reward is bigger than that!

Thank you to our amazing team that helped get them this far and keeps an eye on them to ensure the furkids are happy and healthy.

This weekend we finalized the runners for Bullet and Lee. The community lives very close to the N7 and the furkids needs to be kept away from the N7. The community and LLF would be devastated to find any of the outreach furkids killed on the N7. Thank you to Chris Nothnagel (also for materials donated), Jacques Du Rand, Richard and Gareth for improving the living condition of Bullet and Lee at an informal settlement on the N7. They were tied to a tree with short chains. Now they can run and move in an area 10 x bigger than their previous living space. The furkids are super happy!!!

We also need YOUR support. Please help us to help more furkids out there! It works out between around R500 to help 1 furkid (sterilize, deworm, all vaccinations, microchip). Some even more as they will need veterinary or additional care. (And that excludes food donations given to them, our petrol, dipping, etc.)

We help our canine and feline friends out there, please help us to help more. It breaks our hearts knowing that there are furfriends out there that needs help. Outreach is ongoing as there is always more and more furkids in need.

If you could sponsor (or partly sponsor a furkid) please donate to our fund using the banking details below. Please send proof of payment and your contact details to contact@luckylucy.org

Please share this newsletter with friends, family and colleagues and remember to visit our website to see all the cats and dogs waiting for their forever home.

We have plenty of dogs and cats who are ready for adoption. Please ask your friends and family to consider adopting and saving a life.

The past week has been very busy with lots of new arrivals at our shelter. We are full and cannot help more animals unless we re-home some.

We believe in giving the animals in our care quality of life and the best treatment possible. We hate to say no to taking in animals but we are bombarded every day with mails and calls from people wanting us to re-home their pets. We will try and assist with networking where possible, but we cannot help everybody.

This is heartbreaking for us. We also don’t have an inspector so we cannot confiscate animals from owners. Our staff has their hands full and it is just not possible to go out and help everybody as much as we would like to.

Thank you for understanding and for all your support. A shelter is only as good as its staff, volunteers and supporters allow it to be. We can never do the work we do without all your support. Please don’t thank us, thank yourself for making it possible for us to help the animals in need.

Our biggest gift is seeing a dog or cat find a home and to be part of their journey and rehabilitation. So from the team at LLF, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing suppawt.

Every month we really stress about our running cost and it would be pawsome if we had enough Guardian Angels signing debit orders to help finance our day to day expenses. Please encourage your friends and family to sign a debit order from as little as R100 a month. Existing Guardian Angels of R50 can continue as normal or let us know if you would like to increase your donation amount.

We also have an auction site and are always looking for items to auction if you would like to donate an item or service please mail contact@luckylucy.org

We truly have pawesome suppawters! YOU are absolutely the BEST! YOU are the reason we can continue doing what we do for the furkids! A humble THANK YOU from TEAM LUCKY LUCY and a million licks and purrs from our furkids!
We apologize if we missed a “thank you”!

Thanks for all the suppawt!
From the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Meet some of our new furkids who needed our help this past week.

Zara

To the owners that dumped this young mom and her pups in Beaconvale industrial area: We have no words for you! Do you know that it was as good as a death sentence? How do you think they would survive? In this weather? With no food!!!

Luckily for the furkids, Liezel saved them and brought them into our care. There was a box nearby so we can safely assume that the emaciated mom was dumped and her tiny 3 to 4 week old pups were left in a box near her. Sadly only 3 pups could be found. We can only pray that the 4th pup was picked up by someone and is being cared for… or … no!!!! We don’t want to think of the alternative.

We have named this gorgeous mom Zara. The photo does not show how skinny she really is. Even without food she still cared for her kids… she gave selflessly of herself so that her kids could grow. If only all human’s love was that strong.

Brave mommy Zara, you can relax now. We will help you look after your kids and we will find them and you the best homes and you will never have to go through this again. No more litter after this. No more hurt. No more hunger. No more being ‘unwanted’.

Welcome to our family Zara & kids!

Zara needs special food for her and her babies, any help towards their care will be greatly appreciated.

Rambo

Isn’t he the most gorgeous boy you’ve even seen?
Just want to hug and kiss him and make him forget his horrible past!

Sentenced to a life of misery and an eternity wandering the streets of Elsies River, this stray boy had lost all hope. Thank you Rodanchia for caring enough to alert us to this boy in need. We are so full at the moment with sick dogs and puppies flowing in from everywhere, but how could we say no to him? So we just had to make a plan to get this boy! And now he is with us.

We have taken our latest ‘son’ to the vet for a checkup. He was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange. Sarcoptic mange is a highly contagious skin disease found in dogs, caused by mites. These mites burrow through the skin causing intense itching and irritation. This is a treatable medical condition, but is highly contagious for other animals and humans.

Further bad news came when they examined his x-rays. His left hip was broken a long time ago. He received NO medical care and it has healed on its own. It will be determined at a later stage if an operation will be needed but for now our boy needs to heal his body and soul. A journey that will take some time, but made possible with your help.

Please send Rambo all your love and suppawt so that he knows he does not have to fight this battle that lies ahead alone.

Susie

Please help little Susie, she is still a baby and in hospital fighting the dreaded PARVO disease. She is now one of our outreach furkids and deserves all the help she can get.

Keep her in your hearts and thought so that she can make a full recovery.

If you are able to make a contribution towards this little angel’s vet bill it would be much appreciated. Let’s put back the wag in her tail and a goofy puppy smile on her face.

Marshall

THIS IS WHAT WORMS CAN DO!

Please help baby Marshall with his vet bill. At 7 weeks old he had to be rushed to the vet…. Luckily for him it is only worms and treatable.

Please ensure that you deworm your furkids with a good dewormer (from the vet) regularly!

Natalie

So you are just a tiny innocent little pup. Your body and soul broken as you see those things they call human kids kill your sibling with a long steel thing (golf club). What do you do while you lie there being beaten, feeling the mites crawl under your skin and your tummy aching for food? You pray for death to release you… or for an angel to appear and take you away.

This is exactly what happened to little Natalie. Natalie’s angel was driving through Wesbank Malmesbury, saw this happen and came to their rescue. Sadly her sibling died from injuries sustained during the attack.

We want to thank this special angel who went to Bergzicht Animal Clinic and Bergzicht who offered to treat little Natalie for free. Thank you for the compassion you show towards our fellow beings.

To Natalie’s sibling that was murdered… we love you even though we have never met. We will take good care of your sister. Be happy beyond the rainbow bridge till we all meet again.

Natalie has sarcoptic mange and will also need lots of TLC to be a bouncy pup again. Should you be able to help with her care please see below how to donate. She will need good puppy food, Puppy Advocate, F10 shampoo, vaccinations, a microchip and deworming as time goes by.

We also require you to send Natalie tons of love and healing thoughts. In return she promises to give each of you a tiny butterfly kiss filled with love.

49 Kids still need TICK/FLEA treatment.
