What a journey it has been!

When we heard we had 3 months to move at the beginning of
April 2014, we had no alternative premises to move to and literally no funding to do it with!
We immediately started strategizing. Never were we going to let the animals down! We
had more than one emergency plan thanks to people offering us pieces of land to rent,
but we hoped to be able to buy a property that would secure the future of the foundation.
We were able to meet with the current land owners (John Mathews, the CEO of ‘
Garden Cities’ and Mr. M.Lotter who leases the farm we are on from Garden Cities). They
then gave us an extension till the end of October, allowing us time to raise funds and find
an alternative property. From the bottom of our hearts, a great big thank you to them.
We started raising funds and writing proposals to try and attract donations. We set
ourselves a deadline of end June 2014 to decide whether we would be able to buy or
continue renting. Then a miracle happened! At the beginning of June an anonymous donor
donated enough money to buy a tract of land on the N7 for all our furkids. Our future was
now secure.

We now had a property but no funding for the move and continued fundraising. We took it
week by week, telling the public what we needed. With the suppawt from several
businesses and private individuals, many who want to stay anonymous, we could continue
to build our dream rescue centre.
We started building our new Rescue centre at the beginning of August 2014. Since all our
board members and volunteers have full time jobs, we worked every weekend with the help
of a few volunteers and sponsored workers.
Our LLF permanent staff started worked overtime to help us getting everything done. It was
difficult building on the one side while still having all the animals cared for on the old farm.
Our  staff did a great job and we are very proud of them all.
We laughed, we cried and we are all a lot fitter and stronger but we made it. The second
last week of October we were able to move all our cats to the new cattery on the farm and
last week we were able to move all the dogs. It took a week since we still had to finish camps
as we moved the dogs. On Saturday 1 Nov the last six dogs arrived at the farm.
We are happy to report that everypawdy settled in well and all the furkids just love their new
homes. They are all very calm and relaxed.

There are so many people to thank, we cannot start naming all as the list is so long and we
don’t want to miss anybody. To each and every person and company who have helped us:
Thank You from the bottom of our hearts! We are building the rescue centre for the animals
with your help and generosity. Even though the animals are safe and happy, the work doesn’t
stop. We still have a lot of work ahead and we will be busy for the next couple of months making
sure the dogs and cats get the best we can provide. One of the priorities would be to make ALL
of the camps homely and inviting for our furkids as they deserve only the best. Only 3 of our 20
bigger camps are comfy ‘homes’ and our rehab facility still needs to be completed to improve the
stay of our fur’iends there.

To continue improving the rescue centre we still need the following items if anybody can donate:

  • Shade cloth
  • Roof sheets
  • LOTS of Paving
  • Old wooden garage doors
  • Wood
  • Wine barrels
  • Kennels
  • Cement
  • Solar lights
  • Solar Geyser

Thank You for all your suppawt!

From the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Our Kittens and Adults are safely at their new home!

We want to say thank you to each one who donated towards making the move of our kittens
and cats possible. Without your support there is no story, no hope and no new beginnings for
the animals in our care. But when there is people like you that care and wants to make a
difference then life springs from death and sorrow and it turns into hope.

We were inundated with requests by volunteers who wanted to help move our cats and
kittens however, we decided to move them with the four key volunteers who they know and
who knows each one’s personality. We tried limiting the stress of the journey from the old to
the new farm and we thought it best not to use too many people assisting with the move.
We trust that you will understand that the well being of our kitties are our first priority.

We are extremely grateful that the move of our purring friends have been done without
incident and they are starting to settle down.
We would welcome everyone to come and interact with our kittens and adults in their new home.
You are more than welcome
to visit over the weekend and get a view of how they
experience their new home. They promise you hours of viewing entertainment even
though it
is only from the outside.

Thanks for all the suppawt
