A year filled with big changes that at times threatened to overwhelm us, times that we were so tired that we had no strength to carry on, but your love and suppawt carried us through even the toughest times.

We had a record adoption year and saw so many furkids find their perfect furever families.
Total Animals Adopted – Cats: 191
Total Animals Adopted – Dogs: 198
Total Animals Adopted: 389

So yes, tears of joy were shed for those too. The ones the angels called this year due to illness will furever be in our hearts, strengthening us to provide love and care for those that need us so.

Welcome to all the furry ones and the human ones that joined the big Lucky Lucy family in 2014… we hope to make 2015 an even bigger year… to be there for MORE furkids. We are pawsitive 2015 will be amazing. Outreaches await and there is still a lot of hard work left on our new premises. So there is no rest… full steam ahead…

From The Lucky Lucy Team…
wishing you a NEW YEAR that’s…
Sparkling with furry fun
Bursting with canine joy
& crackling with cat laughter!
For those that share our joys and sorrows, suppawt, adopt, foster, donate & volunteer knows the true meaning of JOY!

We got in quite a few dogs and cats at the end of 2014 and we started 2015 with absolute no space to take in new dogs.

We urgently need to build more camps to provide for puppies and pregnant moms. We also need to improve our Quarantine area and need an office in the dog area.

We are in desperate need of the following:

  • Shade cloth
  • Paving / Cement
  • Washing lines
  • Wendy house (3×4 m) or a shipping container
  • 100 3mx38x76 batons
  • 30 6mx50x76 batons
  • Iso/ecotherm insulation – 200 square m
  • 40 6m corrugated roof sheets
  • Vibracrete
  • A petrol lawnmower

We also need the help of some handy men over weekends to help us build a little barn in each camp to give the dogs more shade in summer and a dry place for winter.

Please let us know if you can help with any of these. Please mail richard@luckylucy.org

We also have a Sponsor a Camp project. Please ask your friends, family, and colleagues if they would like to sponsor a camp.

If you would like to become a Guardian Angel for R50 or more per month please mail guardianangel@luckylucy.org so we can send you the necessary forms.

We would like to thank everybody for their support and apologize if we missed a thank you. Please know that we appreciate all the help and donations and would not be able to do this without your help.

News

Lambie

Even though I am still a baby boy, I followed my canine mom, my siblings and our homeless humans everywhere without any questions…. I just did. ‘Cos that is just what little boys do.

Then one day I just got too weak and too tired and though my heart and soul were screaming for them to wait for me they did not. They walked on as I was only slowing them down….

I was left behind.
Too weak to go any further.
My fur family lost furever….

Luckily some people saw what happened and brought food and water to the open plot where I was resting my weak body and saddened soul. Over the next two days some of my energy came back. Someone then called the Lucky Lucy Foundation to help me. The nice lady immediately came and took me to her house where I got some nice food and an even a bath…. before going to the shelter.

I am skinny, have some mange and will need some TLC to make me a happy new boy again….
Please consider helping me….. Pawlease

Gabriel

Meet Gabriel, named after a Christmas archangel. Kept on a chain for 10 long years.
His freedom taken away…

When the owners was approached, they asked us to take him away and have him put to sleep as he became lame and was in pain.

But where there is life there is hope … and Christmas time is a time of love, hope and miracles. He was rushed to the vet who diagnosed canine spondylosis. It is an ageing disease of the intervertebral disks affecting the spine.

He joined our family on Christmas eve. If you look into his shy eyes there is a definite will to live…. Luckily his pain can be managed even though his hind leg sometimes drags behind him when he walks due to the damage. That doesn’t make him less of a perfect soul or unable to receive and give love!
He is more than ready to receive love. And we do have a lot of love to give.

Please send prayers, love and healing pawsitive thoughts his was as we pray for a miracle.
Please consider helping Gabriel as he needs medication, supplements and special food for his condition.

Our angel Gabriel is a special needs boy. He is still a lively boy at the age of 10 and for the first time in his life he is learning that people can be loving too.

With the correct treatment Gabriel can still live a happy life before it is time for the other angels to call him. We will need a special home for this boy once he is a bit better. Do you have what it takes? Can you love a special boy? E-Mail adoption@luckylucy.org or foster@luckylucy.org

Michael

Meet Michael, another angel that crossed our path…

Sometimes angels walk amongst us. Michael is one of those, an extra special angel. Even though his skin is crusty (at places it already burst open!) and itching terribly, there is something amazing that shines from his eyes. He radiates pure love with absolutely no hate and fear for what was done to him.

Michael visited the vet and was diagnosed with very bad sarcoptic mange. His eyes are also affected.

He was picked up in Parow by Christine. Treatment stated immediately. We can’t wait for everyone to see the gorgeous boy we already see! He is a stunner. He is beautiful on the inside and outside.

Let us learn from Michael and embrace all that is good in life and grab the future with all our paws.

Please send prayers, love and healing pawsitive thoughts his way as this brave boy starts the road to recovery.

Please consider helping Michael with his treatments. We will need Epizone E cream, F10 ointment, Sebaderm shampoo and Ectodex.

Diamanté Update

Our girl is slowly starting to trust again. She is still very shy but that too will change with lots of TLC. She asked us to thank all the good people out there that shared her original plea, send donations, prayers and healing thoughts. She gets a warm fuzzy feeling in her loving heart every time someone sends pawsitive thoughts her way. We too thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Meet Tequila

When this old boy came to us it was difficult to see the real ‘him’ between all the ticks and the fleas. There seemed to be more parasites than furkid. Imagine hundreds of crawly things on you that are eating you alive. But that it not all…. Wait there is more….. His front paw was swinging back and forth. This apparently from a dog attack about a month ago. Poor boy. The owners thought it best to break his neck to end his suffering… !!!

His old man is now in hospital. He can be saved but that would mean his leg would have to be amputated as soon as he is strong enough. The leg is too badly broken for a plate to be attached.
Once his leg is amputated we will tackle the skin condition as diagnosed by the vet.

Please keep this little old man in your hearts. He did not deserve to be treated the way he was. Send him all your love and healing thoughts that he may soon be well enough to come home to us so that we can, one day, find him the perfect furever family.

We would need help with his vet bill for the operation and the hospital stay. Please help Tequila by donating or sharing his plea. We would furever be grateful.

Cruel
What cruel and uncaring minds
must cause thy pain and anguish
To see pain inflicted on this poor creature
to sit back and do nothing
As I see this poor creature
lie there on the table wagging its tail
still keeping hope, I wonder
what pain and anguish it can endure before giving up
thy own words and deeds that scar so deep
as they seem
pour salt on an open wound
What cruel minds
did cause this pain

Nelson is Ready to explore a whole new world!

As we reflect back on 2014 with so many memorable moments we just couldn’t let a moment pass to do an update on one of our bravest boys so far, our little Nelson.

Our brave little boy made a full recovery and is now even more complete than ever before. He truly is a ray of sunlight for whoever came in contact with him. The forgiveness and loving nature of this boy has teached us so many things and on so many levels of life that we will never be able to return the favor. He took a step forward with us and we believed in his strength and none of us has ever looked back since that they that Nelson entered all of our lives and hearts.

We want to thank his foster mom, Kerry-Jean for the care and love she gave him to enable him to make a full recovery!Nelson’s scars not only healed but also his trust in our humans has been restored.

Our boy has given us the thumbs up that he is ready to search for his furever family. He wants to be part of a family where love, compassion and dedication has no boundaries. He wants to love and cuddle furever and he never wants to worry about surviving on his own ever again.

Nelson now has a pending adoption so hopefully he will soon join his new family.

Adopted “Fur-Kids”

Thank You’s

Thanks for all the suppawt!
