To the Supporters and Volunteers of the Lucky Lucy Foundation

Dear Lucky Lucy Supporters and Volunteers,

Don’t forget to put the 8th of October in your diaries! Lucky Lucy will be celebrating its 2nd birthday in its permanent ‘home’ and we are planning several activities for the day and closing off with a Sundowner music event at 6pm on the day. The Sundowner music event will take the form of picnic in our new ‘Sherwood Forest’ which will be ready by then! Pack your baskets and don’t forget the Vino!

Our Clinic is currently being painted by the David Mathews group and will be looking fantastic by the weekend. There is still substantial interior and floor covering painting to be done, but I am confident that will be complete by month end.

The SANRAL contractors will be busy erecting new fencing on the eastern and southern borders of the farm over the next month and clearing trees on the eastern border, so please take special care of yourselves and the dogs you are walking in that area of the farm. At times there will be no fencing in place and there will also be construction machinery ‘at play’ which should be avoided at all costs.

From the weekend of the 17th the newly constructed pond, positioned for use at the start/end of dog walking will be available and full of cool water on Saturdays and Sundays. Whilst it is intended for cooling dogs during the hot summer month’ after walks, Homo sapiens are permitted to dip in desperate circumstances!

We look forward to seeing you on the farm soon and especially on the 8th of October.

Kind Regards
Richard Green (Chairperson)

Meet Leia

Please send a shield of protection to guard over our newest furchildren. Mommy Leia wants to give it her all, but sadly there is not much left to give as she has been to hell and back. As weak as she is, she still managed to bring 10 wonderful perfect pups into the world. What a brave Mom!

Unfortunately she is not coping well and some of her pups are weak. A few are now in foster care. Please pray with us that they will grow stronger day by day and that they too will have a bright & long future ahead of them. At this stage they are all still fragile, but we do believe that where there is life there is hope!

Note from Liesel who was involved in Leia’s rescue.
“On Friday 26 August I get a call from my boss who is walking around our campus in his lunchtime. This is at Shoprite Checkers Head office in Brackenfell. He has found a heavily pregnant dog alongside the railway line. I immediately grab my lead and go looking for this dog. She is lying down but as I approach she starts running away – extremely scared. As I eventually get closer to her I see that she is severely abused with a big burn mark on her side. Her whole body and face is also full of wounds. It takes a long time and lots patience to get her onto the lead as she continuously tries to bite me. Her whole body is shaking from fear and exhaustion. I load her into my car and keep her in the parking lot at work until Alex from LLF comes to fetch her. Alex takes her directly to the vet and the vet confirms that she is in a very neglected state which is a big worry as she is pregnant and very close to giving birth.

As the vet is preparing her for a C-section on sat morning she starts giving birth and miraculously gives birth to 10 pups: 6 boys and 4 girls. She is a wonderful mother and very protective over her puppies.

Alex and I fetched her on Monday and took her to the farm where we settled Leia and her babies. Now they will get all the love and attention that they deserve.”

Meet Helen

Spring arrived and gave us an exquisite beautiful little flower. Meet Helen.

She was found in Epping and joined our family on 2 September 2016.

Isn’t she just gorgeous? Life has been very cruel to her, but it did not change this little one. She is full of life and just wants to kiss and kiss and kiss…

She is an inspiration to us… never to give in… never to give up.
The future is bright and everything is possible when you have love on your side.

Happy Homings

Happy K9 Tail: Jimmy

This boy was found in Wynberg on the morning of 01 August 2016 and taken to the vet by a good Samaritan. The vet then asked us to take him in, but there was a bit of a problem. This old man’s health was not the best. We had some kennel cough cases at our shelter and we did not want to risk him getting sick. Vaccinating him would not provide an immediate safeguard… What now? We asked Johan & Stephenette if they could pretty please foster him for about 2 weeks. Being the awesome people they are, they immediately said yes and welcomed him into their home.

Then we got this awesome message:

As Avril sings: …. and then there were four in the bed and then five, five in the bed and the little one said ” FOSTER FAIL “

Jippee! Little Jimmy now has his own FUREVER human family and loads of furry siblings. Jimmy is the fourth furkid this awesome family adopted from Lucky Lucy.

Jimmy has the best family ever!!!!! Johan & Stephenette, you are amazing. Thank you for falling in love with yet another LLF furkid. Here’s to a bright future filled with years and years of love and joy!

Thank You

The Cat Box Project at Lucky Lucy thanks to Royal Canin

We are truly grateful to Royal Canin for the amazing donation of 15 Royal Canin Cat Boxes towards our Catteries. There is now an official (and scientific!) reason why cats love boxes. Researchers have confirmed that cats take a liking for enclosed cardboard spaces because it aids in lowering stress.

So we had to try it and see how our new cats would feel getting some sleeping boxes while they get use to the shelter environment. Well needless to say … these boxes were tested by young and old, existing and new residents and everyone was over the moon with these amazing gifts. How special these moments were when the boxes were taken into the catteries – well each box got the stamp of approval even before we could leave to the next enclosure.

So Royal Canin we want to Thank You once again for this amazing gift – please accept our sincere gratitude for your support to our Foundation.
